Democratic Institutions

To continue from the previous post – Military Coup – I would say that Democracy can only work under a certain set of institutions.

Democracy is not just about the freedom of speech and the freedom of expression. Democracy is essentially ‘a way of life’. In democracy there are certainly “freedoms” but in reality these “freedoms” are premised on an assumption that society must follow a certain set of rules.

And I mean society as almost everyone. Democracy can only work if almost everyone would submit to this ‘way of life’. And these everyone means all people, rich or poor, strong or weak, influential or not-influential.

And that is one reason why in this post – One Failure of the Malaysian Education System – I say that the educational establishments are extremely essential in promoting democracy.
