Sweating it Out – The Sour and Bitter Taste of Defeat
This is a political tsunami…. at least for the MIC.
I find one interesting election result snippet from Malaysiakini. I hope Malaysiakini don’t mind me copying verbatim.. as I would like to illustrate one point….
Samy says ‘goodbye’ – 3.37am
After defending the seat for nine terms since 1974, MIC’s 71-year-old president S Samy Vellu made a quick exit upon learning his defeat. According to nstonline, on his way out, Samy Vellu could only muster a “goodbye” to reporters and supporters present at the convention hall.
The MIC stalwart lost to Dr D Jeyakumar who has been contesting against him since 1999. In the previous polls four years ago, Samy Vellu defeated the latter with a majority of 10,349 votes. This time around, Jeyakumar, who stood on PKR ticket, garnered 16,874 votes to Samy Vellu’s 14,408. Many of his supporters were seen crying when he left the hall.
So Samy Vellu can only say “goodbye”. I suppose he must be feeling bad. That is so natural. As humans we don’t like to lose… Kiasu or no kiasu all normal people don’t want to lose out in anything they do.
But … Many of his supporters were seen crying when he left the hall…
That is interesting… I suppose Samy Vellu’s supporters must be feeling erally bad… perhaps more worse than that… as they have sweated it out… perhaps during all the campaign period and until the night of the election results… only to find their idol lost the election…
