Press Freedom in Malaysia

“Nothing short of abolishing oppressive press laws will do to ensure that Malaysia’s media is free” – that is the opening statement in the Malaysiakini article: Abolish laws for press freedom – (http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/82312)

I suppose that some times we get confused between sufficient and necessary conditions, especially the latter. Just to point out that Malaysiakini (http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/82382) reported that Raja Petra “wil be charged for sedition”. Now, the Sedition Act is not part of the press law; but it does impinge upon the press.

To illustrate this situation further, I will refer to another Malaysiakini column written by Dean Johns.

This is done in this post- Press Freedom in Malaysia and in Australia
